Nothing argues with the landscape

Warujojo was built so that nothing here argues with the landscape. Walls rise from hand-laid stone, roofs are cut thatch, floors are terracotta from the earth itself. The savanna of Queen Elizabeth National Park begins where the garden hedges end.

The setting

A ridge above the park

The lodge stands near Kyambura Gorge on the eastern edge of Queen Elizabeth National Park, in Uganda’s western rift. From the gardens, the land falls away into grassland that runs unbroken to the horizon. It is the view every veranda, dining table and firepit bench is turned toward.

The materials

Stone, thatch & timber, worked together

Wide verandas on stone pillars, thatch trimmed thick over timber frames, terracotta tile underfoot. It is the classic safari-lodge grammar, built by hand. Paths of flagstone thread between clipped hedges, marked at night by storm lanterns.

The craft

Finished by hand, named with care

Every cottage and banda carries a name on an engraved plaque (Amina, Hannibal, Menelik, Kibalama, Saraunya, Rekemire), and its own finishing: hand-carved basins, copper showers set into river stone, mosquito-net canopies, local textiles on every bed and table.

The flow

Sociable by design

Bar, lounge, open-air dining space and main hall connect naturally, so the lodge lives as one warm, unhurried space rather than a row of closed doors. Guests drift from game drive to bar to table to fire, and the staff’s welcome carries them the whole way.
